Finasteride Cream 5mg contains the active ingredient finasteride. It works by increasing the amount of urine produced by the kidneys. This allows the body to work more effectively and helps to relieve symptoms such as difficulty in swallowing, pain spreading to the breastbone, and difficulty breathing. Finasteride Cream 5mg is also used to treat male pattern in hair loss in men. It works by blocking the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme is responsible for breaking down prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the urine. Finasteride 5mg Cream blocks this enzyme and therefore helps to prevent prostate cancer. Objective:To evaluate the time course of Finasteride (Propecia) clearance, and to identify potential therapeutic targets for the use of Propecia in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss.
Methods:A retrospective case-control study was performed of patients diagnosed with BPH and male pattern hair loss using the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire between January 2009 and December 2010. The study population was selected based on a previous study that indicated that Finasteride (Propecia) significantly improved the IPSS-IPSS score for patients with BPH and male pattern hair loss.
Results:The mean age of the study population was 67.3 years (range: 25 to 85 years) and 46.4% (n=6) were male. The median duration of Finasteride use was 4.5 months (mean: 13.1 months) and the median duration of Propecia use was 11.8 months (mean: 10.8 months) in the Finasteride group and 9.3 months (mean: 7.5 months) and 11.7 months (mean: 9.6 months) in the Propecia group.
Conclusions:Finasteride (Propecia) has significant improvements in the IPSS-IPSS score for patients with BPH and male pattern hair loss. This may be related to the increased use of Propecia in these patients. Further studies are required to identify new therapeutic targets and to establish the safety of this drug for patients with BPH.
